Ever since Nintendo announced back in October that they were to launch a new instalment of the DS – The Nintendo DSi – heads began to turn. In a year that has seen the arrival of the iphone and the touch, many were wondering if the DSi was the Japanese reaction to the latest Apple toy.
Well, in terms of communication, the Nintendo DSi is the closest that any gaming company has come to a response, with two embedded DSi cameras, photo storage capabilities and music and video technology. However, these are merely a welcome addition, as the DSi follows the outstanding tradition of Nintendo handhelds, in once again proving an utterly enthralling gaming experience.
The DSi reviews fantastically from a gaming perspective. The guys at Nintendo have certainly done their homework and have gone about making a model that has just the right adjustments to the DS. The flat LCD screen remains, and has gained a few millimetres making the console slightly larger in length. It has also hit the gym and slimmed down a shade, 22% to be exact. The gameboy advance port has gone, and in doing so has enabled the console to shed a few grams.
Unlike the DS, the Nintendo DSi comes in just the two colours - White and Black. The matte finish gives the DSi an altogether more polished look and has the sleek appearance of a laptop rather than a kid’s toy.
Available in early April the Nintendo DSi is certainly one to look out for this spring.
